Laser trimming of plastic sprues

In this project, the customer required a very precise trimming of the sprue light tubes system for ambient lighting in the interiors of vehicles, with high accuracy and without affecting the light flow within the trimmed part, which is made of PMMA material. Trimming was requested on two mirror-symmetrical parts.
Solution
Based on the customer‘s requirements for the simplicity of the device and the possibility of future relocation, we decided to supply a dedicated machine from the Variocell series, equipped with an 80W CO2 laser. Given the fl exibility of the device and the potential for other types of products, the laser is mounted on linear rails, and the machine features a quick-change gripping system. To achieve a clean product immediately after cutting, an ionized air blow-off system was implemented.
Results
- Highly precise trimming.
- No impact on light attributes.
- No fogging on the part.
- Packaging immediately after cutting without the need for additional processes.
